IXP Peering Roadshow and Workshop Concludes Successfully in Juba, South Sudan
The Internet Society South Sudan Chapter, in partnership with the Internet Society, successfully hosted the IXP Peering Roadshow and Workshop on 25 June 2025 in Juba, South Sudan.
The workshop brought together a cross-section of South Sudan’s internet ecosystem, including Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), Internet service providers (ISPs), Banks, regulators and key government entities. The primary objective was to build local capacity and advance the establishment of a national Internet Exchange Point (IXP) to improve connectivity, reduce costs, and support the digital transformation of South Sudan.

National Landscape and SS-IXP Efforts
Eng. Chol Mayen, Director for Research and Planning at the National Communication Authority (NCA), delivered a detailed presentation on the current digital landscape in South Sudan. He highlighted both the challenges and the forward-looking efforts being undertaken by the NCA, particularly the establishment of the South Sudan Internet Exchange Point (SS-IXP).
Technical Deep Dive and Knowledge Sharing
Sessions led by Ghislain Nkeramugaba and Eddy Kayihura offered in-depth insights on:
Peering and interconnection models in the region
Developing peering policies and best practices
Business models around transit and measurement tools (including ISOC Pulse)
The role of regulation in fostering local internet infrastructure

The workshop marked a major step in promoting local ownership of internet infrastructure and creating a sustainable peering ecosystem in South Sudan. Participants expressed strong support for the creation of a national IXP and emphasized the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders, including the private sector, civil society, academia, and government.
