The journey toward a digitally empowered South Sudan is an ongoing commitment. One that must be grounded in equity, access, and skill-building. Recognizing the critical role of technology in national development, the Internet Society South Sudan Chapter, with vital support from the Internet Society Foundation, successfully conducted the multi-phased Digital Skills Training Project (DST-Project) at Scenius Hub.

This comprehensive initiative directly addressed the digital skills gap, equipping two key sectors, Education and Entrepreneurship with the essential competencies needed to thrive in the modern era.

Phase I: Empowering the Educators

The first phase of the DST-Project focused on teachers and professionals from learning institutions, positioning them as critical change agents in strengthening digital literacy in the classroom.

From Orientation, Computer Basics, and Social Media for Academic Communications (led by Data Battuel) to Online Safety and Cybersecurity (facilitated by Robert Ariik), educators gained hands-on expertise to transform learning environments.

Sessions on Google Productivity Tools and Cloud Storage (led by Bida Emmanuel) streamlined workflow and collaboration, while training on Fact-checking in Education empowered teachers to combat misinformation and foster critical thinking among students.

“Digital literacy can enhance both teaching and learning experiences.” This recurring reflection from participants underscored the powerful potential of applying these new skills to improve resource sharing, communication, and classroom management.

The Closing Ceremony celebrated their dedication, marking a significant step toward bridging the gap between technology and learning in South Sudan.

Phase II: Fueling Entrepreneurial Growth

The momentum continued into the second phase, shifting focus to entrepreneurs and business professionals. This cohort received specialized training designed to enhance efficiency, competitive edge, and digital resilience in the business landscape.

The final day included a focus on Fact-Checking for Business Communication to ensure credibility in advertising and customer interactions, culminating in a Certificate Awarding Ceremony that celebrated their commitment to embracing digital tools for development.

A Commitment to Digital Dignity

The DST-Project successfully concluded the first two phases, demonstrating the profound impact of targeted, hands-on training. We extend our sincere gratitude to our dedicated trainers Data Battuel, Robert Ariik and Bida Emmanuel—and all participants who embraced this intensive learning journey.

This initiative is more than a skills program; it’s an investment in human capacity and a commitment to ensuring that South Sudan’s digital future is one defined by empowerment, security, and opportunity.
